THE clean green program many Eyre Peninsula rock lobster boats have taken part in has won an award.

Southern Rock Lobster Limited (South East, Eyre Peninsula, Kangaroo Island) received a merit award in the fishing/aquaculture category of the FarmBis Training Awards on June 20.

About 70 per cent of boats have become accredited through the program that is built on the environment, occupational health and safety, food safety and quality, and animal welfare.

The Australian Quarantine Inspection Service has recognised the program and found it acceptable for catcher boats handling live crustaceans for export to all markets.

Held recently in Adelaide, the FarmBis awards celebrated South Australia’s training excellence by acknowledging the achievements of rural trainers in helping producers build productive businesses and manage risk.

FarmBis State Planning Group chair Laura Fell said with the FarmBis program coming to an end on June 30, the night was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the success of the program and its trainers.

“FarmBis has supported training for primary producers in South Australia since 1998, recording more than 28,000 training occasions, but this wouldn’t have been achievable without the dedication of our training providers,” she said.

“The diversity of training being offered by our award winning trainers, from production and management to specialist training for indigenous groups, women and youth, shows just how proactive our training sector is.”
