Educators step up fight for wages

8/08/2008 12:47:00 PM
TEACHERS, parents, students and education workers from Port Lincoln stepped up their fight for quality education yesterday with a rally at the Civic Centre.

A half-day strike took place yesterday morning to protest the government’s latest enterprise bargain offer.

“We rally here today in front of Liz Penfold’s office to ask her to agitate the government,” Australian Education Union organiser Sam Lisle-Menzel said to about 60 people.

“We are here today as this State Government has lost its way with its pre-election promises to be pro-education.

“The education workforce of South Australia is passionate and committed to delivering the highest quality of learning for our students to make sure that our worksites are fully resourced and we have reasonable work loads and that we are appropriately paid.

“This EB (enterprise bargain) offer is the worst we have ever seen, not only do we have to fight for our rights and our conditions, but we are here today fighting to protect our schools from a change to funding that will be devastating.”
