EYRE Peninsula will face Central and South East in the first round of the 2008 South Australian Country Football Championships in Berri and Barmera this weekend.

The team, which will again be coached by Corey McLennan, will play two games on Saturday and one in the final round of the championships on Sunday.

Six regions will contest the carnival including Southern Districts, Murray Mallee, Northern, Central, South East and Eyre Peninsula, and each team must have a minimum of six players aged under 21 in the squad of 25.

Southern Districts won last year’s title, and will play in group one, but Eyre Peninsula is ranked top in its group.

In addition to the championships, 24 players will be picked to represent South Australia at the Australian Country Carnival in Shepparton at the end of the month.

The squad is: Simon Pelder (captain, Great Flinders); Matthew Goodwin (vice captain, Port Lincoln); Ryan DuBois (vice captain, Mid West); Matthew James, Murray Kelsh, Carl Semmler, Ross Campbell, Hadyn Parker (Port Lincoln), Jess Stringer, Tyson Montgomerie, Aiden Whitford (Mid West); Cody Mason, Kyle Jenner, Leigh Fitzgerald, Matt Franklin, Matthew Lienert (Eastern Eyre), Mark Habner, Michael Curtis, Aaron Castley, Craig Curtis, Sam Read, Brock Jolly, Brad Hazelgrove (Great Flinders); and Waylon Johncock (Far West). Reserve: Nigel James (Great Flinders).
