Men’s A grade
Panthers 4 def Marauders 3
AFTER an even first half, Panthers managed to stay just ahead of Marauders for the rest of the game to win by the smallest of margins.
There were some stunning goals scored by both teams with a reverse stick tomahawk from an unlikely angle threading the gap between the keeper and goal post the highlight.
There was plenty of vigorous chasing and desperate moves; Panthers’ James Russell would have had grass stains all over his shirt if they weren’t playing on the turf.Matt Fisher had a top game in defence for Marauders and was giving Todd Foreman and Doug Ashman plenty of the ball, while for Panthers Shane and Grant Paull created plenty of scoring opportunities.
Wanderers 4 def Flinders 2
Another dominant display by the Wanderers’ side, but this week Flinders took it right up to them and were unlucky not to be at least a goal closer.
Ryan Kobelt scored a couple of goals for Wanderers and Justin Braakhuis did the same for Flinders.
Women’s A
Wanderers 6 def Flinders 0
Another dominant display by Wanderers saw them easily defeat Flinders who simply could not penetrate the Wanderers’ defence.
The first half was close, with Wanderers going to the break only a couple of goals up.
Kristy Cherini recovered from a lethargic first half to score a hat trick to the delight of the Wanderers’ supporters.
Nicole Cordon and Hanna Stanley were getting plenty of midfield ball for the Flinders team, but their forward moves were constantly repelled by the scintillating skills of Bernie Southam who has a happy knack of turning defence into attack at every opportunity.
Jodie Hamilton-Reid was in fine form with two goals, well supported by Rita and Cara Archer.
Some nice work by Melinda Raddatz in goals for Flinders should not go unmentioned, plenty of great saves and a happy disposition to boot.
Panthers 2 def Marauders 1
An early goal for Marauders by Emily Stanley kept a lid on Panthers’ aspirations - for most of the game.
Shelley Harrison was pleased to see mother and daughter combination in Glenys and Megan Bisset playing important cameo roles.
With just a couple of minutes to go, goals to Jo Pannizolo and Megan Bisset gave the black and whites a last gasp victory.
Men’s B
Panthers 2 def Marauders 0
Panthers easily accounted for Marauders on the grass, giving the Marauders’ defence plenty to do throughout the game.
Max Williams kept a clean sheet in goals for Panthers while at the other end the Panthers forwards peppered the goals, if it were not for wayward shooting their score would have been much higher.
Raj Dahliwal was superb for Panthers sealing victory with a cracking shot at goal which hit the backboard so hard it will need to be straightened before next week.
Marauders had plenty of midfield moves through Bradley Bockman, with Geoff Carr providing plenty of run through the midfield.
Flinders 1 drew Wanderers 1
If Wanderers were expecting a win in this game Flinders gave them a rude shock to share the points.
Wayne Harvey controlled the midfield for Flinders, clearly refreshed after having the previous weekend off, well supported by Kieran Stanley.
For Wanderers, Gavin Ellis looked sharp and scored a goal, Dave Lawson was solid in defence as always
Women’s B
Flinders 0 drew Wanderers 0
The scorers were untroubled during the game between Flinders and Wanderers in the women’s B grade, where both teams were blessed with a mixture of youth and experience.
Panthers 2 def Marauders 0
A good win to Panthers, with powerhouse Steph Whittaker in fine form and Karlee Barwick covering a lot of ground, both contributing to their team’s victory.
Both teams were using the ball well on the turf.
Fiona Kavanagh set up plenty of attacking moves with support from Narelle Biddell, while at the back Clare Galagher proved she could multi-task by providing plenty of advice to those around her and making some great saves at the same time.
Under 16 boys
Wanderers 5 def Flinders 0
Wanderers were just too strong for Flinders, with Gerry Archer getting among the goals and the best players.
